Over the past seven and a half years, Alexia Williams has traveled across Virginia delivering life-skills education, mentorship, leadership development, and community engagement opportunities for young people.
Through S.T.A.R., she has visited 42 schools, reached more than 6,000 students, completed over 13,000 volunteer hours, and engaged communities in 53 counties and 33 independent cities across the Commonwealth.
Her mission is simple: ensure young people have access to the practical skills and confidence they need to succeed in adulthood, regardless of where they live.

Research shows only 25% of 21-year-olds are financially independent and just 39% hold full-time employment. Yet young adults are expected to navigate finances, careers, relationships, and personal wellness with little formal preparation.
That's why Alexia created S.T.A.R. — Successful Training of Adult Responsibilities.
Through practical life-skills education, mentorship, and community partnerships, S.T.A.R. equips young people with the confidence, knowledge, and tools they need to thrive beyond the classroom. What began as a personal mission inspired by Alexia's own journey has grown into a statewide initiative.
Because success isn't about having everything figured out—it's about being prepared to take the next step.

I’m a journalist, educator and founder of S.T.A.R. — Successful Training of Adult Responsibilities. Through my work in classrooms, the community and media, I focus on bridging the gap to adulthood by teaching practical life skills many young people are never formally taught. Whether I’m speaking with students, working alongside educators or reporting stories that matter my goal is always the same: to empower the next generation to step into adulthood prepared, capable and confident.
